You can't teach an old dog new tricks...

Or an old dog fighter, for that matter.

You would think that after serving almost two years in prison for his involvement in a dog fighting ring, Mike Vick would be a little smarter and a little more cautious. Instead, he recently threw a highly publicized birthday party for himself at a restaurant where a former friend, one who snitched on Vick in the dog fighting case, showed up and ended up getting shot outside the restaurant a few minutes after Vick had reportedly left.

While Vick isn't a suspect in the investigation, despite his obvious relation to the victim, he apparently lied to authorities about what time he actually left the party. Even though he didn't pull the trigger or give the word to (I hope not), the fact that he put himself in a questionable situation like that just goes to show that he still hasn't learned from his previous mistakes. Professional athletes have it tough because they're constantly in the public eye and they have to balance a fine line between maintaining their image for the public as well as keeping it real with their crew. Considering what he went through in order to get a second chance in the NFL, why even risk it though?

IF he returns to the NFL for another season, I don't know if I'll still be able to root for a guy who seems intent on ruining the opportunities available to him.
