The Hunt Is On

The chase for King James is on...

One of the most sought after free agents on the market this year. Where will he end up??
Feel free to leave a comment and let us know where you think he may end up.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks...

Or an old dog fighter, for that matter.

You would think that after serving almost two years in prison for his involvement in a dog fighting ring, Mike Vick would be a little smarter and a little more cautious. Instead, he recently threw a highly publicized birthday party for himself at a restaurant where a former friend, one who snitched on Vick in the dog fighting case, showed up and ended up getting shot outside the restaurant a few minutes after Vick had reportedly left.

While Vick isn't a suspect in the investigation, despite his obvious relation to the victim, he apparently lied to authorities about what time he actually left the party. Even though he didn't pull the trigger or give the word to (I hope not), the fact that he put himself in a questionable situation like that just goes to show that he still hasn't learned from his previous mistakes. Professional athletes have it tough because they're constantly in the public eye and they have to balance a fine line between maintaining their image for the public as well as keeping it real with their crew. Considering what he went through in order to get a second chance in the NFL, why even risk it though?

IF he returns to the NFL for another season, I don't know if I'll still be able to root for a guy who seems intent on ruining the opportunities available to him.

Rick Ross Feat. Curren$y & Wiz Khalifa- Super High (Remix)

I'm not the biggest Ross fan but he does have a great ear for beats, and this song is no exception. Adding Spitta and Wiz on the remix was only fitting given the song's subject.

We did some supersize smoking ourselves the other night by rolling up another green Game cigar. I hate to admit it but they really are superior to dutches in several ways. Definitely worth grabbing a box to try them out.

Just a few random pics I snapped in the last week...

Diplomats- Salute Me

Well it's not just a rumor anymore. The Dips are officially back together. I have mixed feelings regarding the reunion because I feel like Cam and Vado are making moves doing their own thing, and adding Jim and Juelz back to the mix might mess with the chemistry.

Hearing this new track quickly changed my mind though. Something about these three all on the same song brings back memories.

Stuck in the lab

Hope everyone's summer has been a good one so far! Here at Dank LA it's been a busy summer up to this point, and we've added a few new members to the crew to help.

Meeting of the minds last night to hammer out some new designs and logos as well as plans for the new site.

#3 on my summer to do-list: get a bigger grinder

Game blunt courtesy of The Joker.

On the music side of things, Vado continues to make noise with some quick bars over Waka Flocka's Hard in the Paint.

If you haven't heard of Big K.R.I.T yet then it's time to get familiar.

Presenting Your 2010 NBA Champions

What can I say...other than I told you so. The Laker-haters were more active this year than in any other season I can remember in the past. Even when their own teams were out of the playoff race before the All-Star break, they latched on to other teams/players in the hopes that maybe they could stop the Lakers. Well, they didn't and now we have back-to-back championships to celebrate.

There will definitely be a lot of changes in the off-season. I think Sasha will be re-signed after showing some progress in the playoffs. He may finally be ready to be the 3-point shooter we've been expecting for some time. Farmar, Adam Mo and probably Josh Powell too should all be gone.

My dude DJ needs to stick around for a chance at a 3peat.

To all the haters and doubters...

...because we're coming for another one again next season!

Various Artists- Rollin' 25 Deep

This song came out back in 2005 and featured some of the best up-and-coming rappers at the time, dudes like Jae Millz, J.R. Writer, Stack Bundles, Saigon, Papoose, Maino, Murda Mook and Paul Cain. Looking back at it 5 years later it's crazy that none of them saw any major success really aside from Maino (and that was short-lived), and the majority of them are now long forgotten.

It just goes to show how difficult it is to make it in the rap game, especially if you limit yourself to being strictly a punch-line rapper like most of these guys. This was also the first time I ever heard Stack Bundles (RIP) on the mic, and I truly believe he was one of the few on this song who was poised to make it big.

Cee-Lo- Stray Bullets Mixtape

This mixtape is a complete 180 from the majority of music that gets posted on here. I've been a fan of Cee-Lo since his debut solo album Cee-Lo Green and his Perfect Imperfections. I used to get shit from my friends for listening to him in High School but go figure he ended up becoming huge after the success of Gnarls Barkley. This has been a great change of sound from the Cam, Freddie Gibbs, and Curren$y that has been occupying my iPod lately. I'd even go as far as saying that Cee-Lo is the most talented musical artist right now for any genre. Tell me I'm wrong.

Back to Boston

No real Lakers fans expected this series to be a breeze so I wasn't entirely surprised that the Celtics evened the series up yesterday. Yes, the refs we're terrible in Game 2, but I believe it will end up balancing out by the end of the series. Plus I just don't see Ray Allen shooting THAT well in every game the rest of the way.

The other night Renheezie packed a beastly bowl but then proceeded to take quite possibly the smallest rip I've ever witnessed haha.

It's all good though because he made up for it with this blunt during halftime of the game.

Barkev came through to finish up some studying, but more importantly he brought over this secret seasoning blend that his Aunt made.

We put it right to use and grilled some short ribs and chicken breasts to accompany the blunt.

I Could've Told You That...

When I first told my Mom I was a fan of the ganja a few years back she wasn't too pleased. It wasn't the weed itself that bothered her, but the idea of me driving high all the time. Countless times I attempted to explain to her that, if anything, I drove SAFER when I was high but she wasn't having it.

I finally have some evidence to support my argument though, as researchers from Hartford Hospital and the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine did a study and found that smoking weed has at most a minimal impact on driving performance...

"Smoking THC cigarettes caused drivers to drive slower in a dose-dependent manner, while alcohol caused drivers to drive significantly faster than in 'control' conditions."

I was over at Yosh's house last night kicking it before a dorm reunion and he was just putting this tray of brownies in the oven.

We kept it OG and played a few games of Jenga while waiting for the brownies.

Fully Focused

Not even a Chris Rock joke can phase Kobe right now. Without question playing some of the best playoff basketball of his career.

I don't expect the rest of the series to be as easy for the Lakers as it was in Game 1, but it was great to get the first one out of the way. Not to mention Phil Jackson's teams are 47-0 in playoff series when winning Game 1.

Enjoying the victory...1 down, 3 to go!

Today Was A Good Day x Chinese 1C

The other day my boy Matt was over at the crib editing a video for his Chinese final. The assignment was to do a presentation covering all the words and phrases they had learned during the quarter. Matt being a hip-hop head and all went ahead and made a music video set to Cube's Today Was A Good Day.

Here's the finished video...shit is HILARIOUS!

A little fuckery and a little nuggery

This past weekend was a good one to say the least. We got a ton of b.i. done, slowly but surely making some moves to satisfy the people. And Young James turned 21 and had a dope party!

(click all pics to enlarge)
After I rolled an L up at Young J's crib I had to take a leak badly, so I stashed the blunt on the window sill. Where's Waldo?

The homie Vickman aka DirtyDumbo had this ill t-shirt on that I had to get a pic of that night.

Shout outs to Minkis for almost joining the chancleta brigade that night too haha.

A random pic I snapped the other night at the big homie Pats crib.

Must be dope having the hook up on energy drinks(even though I don't fucks with energy drinks) and other dope shit made by Roaring Lion from the homie Rick Deez, What up! Ill take that check from you next week mang.

Now for the nuggery...

On a side note, I just made my way through Drake's new album and I must say it is a solid effort.
Not a classic by any means but it is def feel good music. Check it out on the real.

Shroomin'

The other day a friend of mine was trying to convince me to do shrooms sometime in the near future. I've thought about it plenty of times before but I've never been intrigued enough to actually do them. Needless to say my thoughts are unchanged after coming across this news article over the weekend.

Jarrod Wyatt, an MMA fighter, drank some shroom-spiked tea and became convinced that his friend was the devil. He then proceeded to cut out his friend's tongue and heart and cook them on the stove. Initially I was skeptical of the story because I didn't see any major news sources covering it, but as soon as I saw a picture of the guy I had no problem believing the validity of the story.
